<image:caption>The Coomloughra horseshoe forms a circuit around its hour-glass shaped lakes, and is one of Ireland’s classic mountain routes taking in three of its highest peaks: Carrauntoohil, Beenkeragh and Caher. Lough Eighter, easily accessible from the Hydro Road, is a gateway to these lofty peaks and the view southeast from it is an amphitheatre that showcases the entire horseshoe. Photographer Adrian Hendroff says: “This is one of those priceless spring mountain days: glorious blue-skies, all the browns, yellows and greens of the hill reflected off clear lakeshore waters, and crags with a splash of white snow in its dark, sheltered gullies. And then there is the silence of these Kerry hills.”

<image:caption>The spectacular Dingle Peninsula in southwest Ireland extends westward into the Atlantic from Tralee to Slea Head. Voted among the Top 100 destinations in the world by TripAdvisor and referred to as the most beautiful place on earth by National Geographic, its landscape includes soaring mountaintops, gentle hillsides, secluded lakes and valleys, ancient ruins, dramatic sea cliffs and long, sandy beaches.

This guide takes you off the beaten track to explore this stunning landscape in a variety of walking routes ranging from short hikes to full-day treks. From the wild extremities of the Great Blasket Island to the majestic heights of Mount Brandon and the comfort of the Dingle Way, there's something for all tastes. Each route is prefaced with a reference summary and illustrated with maps and photographs. Route descriptions include GPS coordinates, navigation guidance, access notes and short variations. There is also material on the fauna, flora, folklore, history, geology and place names of each area.

'I love ‘From High Places’; apart from the stunning pictures, I’ve had enormous pleasure reading about the local tales associated with the beautiful places I’ve discovered while out walking in Ireland. I’ve flicked through memories from hiking in Kerry and Wicklow; and dipped into landscapes which I’ve yet to discover. For me, Adrian’s book is a road-map to the hidden treasures of Ireland which all of us can share'

The northwest of Ireland provides a diversity of walks, from the wild, untamed landscape of Donegal, with its mountains, sea-cliffs and glens, to the gentler hills, green valleys and picturesque escarpments of Sligo and Leitrim.

This guidebook describes 27 walks of various grades in this fascinating part of Ireland that has inspired poets, and is rich in folklore and history. Quality photographs and specially-drawn maps will inspire one to get the walking boots on and start exploring this majestic landscape. Since most routes are not signposted or way-marked, an up-to-date guidebook is essential. Walk descriptions also include material on the natural history, folklore, geology and place-names of the area.

The Beara and Sheep's Head Peninsulas lie in the southwest of Ireland, pointed fingers of land wedged between the Kenmare River, Bantry Bay and Dunmanus Bay. They are peaceful, unspoiled peninsulas where the wild and largely untamed nature of the landscape immediately casts its magical spell.

There is no better way to explore and experience this stunning landscape than on foot. This guidebook describes some of the best walking routes in the area: from Dursey Island and Bear Island to the Caha and Shehy Mountains, from the forest trails of Glengarriff to the lakes of Glaninchiquin, and from the tip of the Sheep's Head to the ridges of Peakeen and Seefin. The routes range from short hikes to longer treks, coastal and inland, something to suit everyone's interest. Each route is prefaced with a reference summary and illustrated with maps and photographs. Route descriptions include GPS coordinates, navigation guidance, access notes and short variations. There is also material on the fauna, flora, folklore, history, geology and place names of each area.

Each walk has well-written introductory paragraph to tempt the first-time explorer to that region, with lyrical hints (a river "flows and swirls in a knot-like fashion"). Route descriptions are conveyed clearly and concisely. Grid locations are incorporated seamlessly into the narrative. The extension/variation information panels are a welcome addition.'

What Clients Say
"Thanks a lot for an excellent couple of days in the Wicklow hills. I thoroughly enjoyed the MS1 training, but more importantly came away from the training with a new set of skills which will prove invaluable for hill walking. I liked the way you covered the syllabus with a mixture of clear concise talks, explanations and practical exercises, all delivered with a great sense of humour and with infinite patience. I think you put a huge effort into ensuring that each member of the group ‘got’ the concepts and understood how to put them into practise. I’ll be back for MS2." - Neil O'Mullane

"I recently completed MS1 with Adrian and really enjoyed it. Adrian is a great trainer with a depth of mountaineering knowledge. He broke the course content down into manageable chunks and delivered it in a warm and engaging way. The end result was a weekend of learning and laughter in the hills - what more could you ask for? Highly recommended!" - Marina Branigan

"Had a great time completing the MS1 course with Adrian. It was a great couple of days, helped by gorgeous weather and a lovely group of fellow participants. My 13-year old daughter also took the course and we both learned so much from Adrian''s clear guidance and enjoyable tasks. A great communicator, his practical experience and knowledge of the syllabus meant everything was covered in detail, with lots of time for questions and further explanations if needed. Would highly recommend for any mountain training.” - Michael Seaver
